The UFC is taking allegations of fight fixing ‘very seriously’ after controversy surrounding a Las Vegas bout this past weekend.Featherweight Isaac Dulgarian was axed from Dana White’s roster just one day after suffering defeat at UFC Vegas 110 on Saturday night. Dulgarian submitted to a rear-naked choke three minutes and 41 seconds into his fight at UFC Vegas 110GettyEsteemed MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reported that Dulgarian parted ways with the promotion following his first-round submission loss to Yadier del Valle. The fight has since been the epicentre of a betting scandal, as Dulgarian’s odds of beating del Valle crashed hours before he entered the cage, although Helwani said the official reason for his release was the defeat.Dulgarian, 29, entered as a clear favourite, but tapped out to a rear-naked choke less than four minutes into the fight.Members of the MMA fraternity immediately picked up on Dulgarian’s poor performance, as the American offered no real defence when del Valle had him pinned to the ground.UFC analyst Michael Chiesa said Dulgarian, who is known as an elite grappler, ‘fought like an amateur’ in a scathing review of his performance, adding that the fighter looked like he didn’t even belong in the Octagon.Just hours after the result, bookmakers William Hill and Caesars released the exact same statement, telling customers that losing bets on the fight will be refunded.UFC officials have now issued a stern statement on the matter in a story that seems far from over.UFC: Nothing more important than integrity of MMA”Like many professional sports organizations, UFC works with an independent betting integrity service to monitor wagering activity on our events,” the statement read.“Our betting integrity partner, IC360, monitors wagering on every UFC event and is conducting a thorough review of the facts surrounding the Dulgarian vs. del Valle bout on Saturday, November 1.“We take these allegations very seriously, and along with the health and safety of our fighters, nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport.”Dulgarian declared before his fight in Las Vegas this past weekend that all fighters should get a percentage of the winning bets placed on themGettyDulgarian made a name for himself at Canadian MMA promotion FAC in 2021 before signing with the UFC two years later. He made a successful debut in August 2023 and went 2-2 in White‘s promotion.Ahead of his defeat to del Valle, Dulgarian said in an interview with MMA Junkie that there should be a clause in UFC contracts for fighters to get ‘like three or five per cent’ of bets placed on them.“I said, ‘Don’t bet on me unless you’re paying me some percentage,’ I’m doing all the work — that’s how I feel about it,” Dulgarian said.“…If you’re betting on me, I want some of it.”Not the first UFC betting scandalThis isn’t the first time allegations of match fixing have crept up in the UFC.Cuba’s del Valle is undefeated in two UFC fights, having secured his contract through White’s Contender Series in 2024GettyDulgarian, 7-2 in professional MMA, joined the UFC in August 2023 and his defeat to del Valle was his second in four fightsUFCIn early 2023, UFC flyweight Jeff Molina was suspended from MMA after allegations that he was part of a betting scandal. He was accused of being ‘involved in some substantial way’ with suspicious bets placed on his teammate Darrick Minner, but denied any wrongdoing in March this year.Minner suddenly had his odds of defeating Shayilan Nuerdanbieke in a November 2022 bout increased, before losing in the first round. The fighter was subsequently cut for failing to disclose a leg injury heading into the bout.Minner’s coach, James Krause, was slapped with a ban following the fight for not telling the Nevada Athletic Commission about the injury.Fans have pointed out that Krause also once trained Dulgarian, although no further developments have emerged since news of the featherweight’s release.
