The non-profit equine adoption program Second Stride, based in Prospect, Kentucky, is conducting a series of three fundraisers with Kentucky Derby themes designed to support retired Thoroughbred racehorses as they transition to second careers beyond the track.“Derby season is when the world falls in love with the Thoroughbred,” said Second Stride founder Kim Smith. “What many people don't see is what comes next for these horses. As more horses enter aftercare and require longer, more individualized support, our work–and the community's role in it–has never been more important. These events are designed so anyone can contribute to the future of these horses, whether you've been involved in racing for years or are just discovering it.”The series of fundraisers begins Apr. 27 with Champions Night at Valhalla Golf Club with highlights including a Derby horse halter pull, auctions, bourbon and wine tastings and Derby talk with key racing celebrities. It continues May 3 with a Barn and Stable Party featuring pony rides, food trucks, vendors and the award-winning Bourbon Revival Band, and concludes May 18 with Fore the Horses Golf Scramble with Hunting Creek Country Club (Prospect) playing host to a community-driven day on the course. For more information on the events, click here. The post Second Stride Unveils Derby Season Fundraising Series appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
