The Premier League is the only thing Newcastle United have left to play for this season, and unless they are careful they will soon be out of the race for European football too.Next up for the Magpies is a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, who are just about in the European conversation as well. Who wins this one in south London?Newcastle United to win – 9/11 with 247BetBoth teams to score – 8/13 with SmarketsAnthony Gordon to score any time – 2/1 with BoyleSportsCrystal Palace vs Newcastle United oddsFind the latest Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United betting odds here. They also fell well short in the FA Cup and were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona in the round of 16.Their performance in the Premier League has been most disappointing of all. Newcastle began the campaign with the ambition of finishing in the top five and qualifying for the Champions League. But with just seven rounds of fixtures remaining, Newcastle find themselves way down in 12th.Defeat on Sunday would leave Eddie Howe’s team at least one place lower in the standings. It would also be a blow to their ambitions of qualifying for Europe.Newcastle will almost certainly be absent from the 2026/27 Champions League . A seven-point deficit to fifth will prove too sizable to overcome unless Howe’s men are near-perfect over the next few weeks.Missing out on Europe altogether would represent an even worse failing. There is an argument that Newcastle would be better off out of continental competition altogether, allowing them to focus their full efforts on the Premier League next season. That is not how the club’s owners see it. Reports from earlier this week suggest that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund expects Newcastle to be in the Europa League or the Conference League at a bare minimum. If they were to miss out on a top-eight finish and therefore fail to qualify for Europe, Howe could find himself out of a job.Newcastle might be in lower mid-table, but they are only four points behind Brentford in seventh. A strong end to the season could potentially see them finish as high as sixth, where Chelsea are currently six points ahead of the Magpies. The problem is, consistency has eluded Newcastle throughout 2025/26. And in their last league outing, Howe’s side went down to a painful 2-1 home defeat by Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby.Crystal Palace are not quite out of the conversation for a top-eight finish, although they are arguably the only club in the division for whom both European qualification and relegation are highly unlikely.Palace are seven points adrift of seventh, and although they have a game in hand on the teams around them, it is away to Manchester City.Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United betting tipsCrystal Palace and Newcastle United will battle it out for all three points on Sunday.Newcastle to bounce backCrystal Palace were in action on Thursday night, when they produced perhaps their best performance of the season in a 3-0 victory over Fiorentina in the first leg of their Conference League quarter-final.With the return fixture scheduled for Thursday, Oliver Glasner is likely to rest some of his key players for the visit of Newcastle United. That does not mean Palace will be easily beaten. They looked refreshed against Fiorentina, no doubt benefitting from a month-long break from the Premier League. But Palace have relatively little to play for domestically, while Newcastle need a win to get their campaign back on track. Tip Newcastle United to win at 9/11 with 247Bet Goals at both endsCrystal Palace have turned in their fair share of stodgy performances this term, but they were back to their best in an attacking sense against Fiorentina.Palace are better suited to playing teams who will come at them, so they should cause this Newcastle team problems.Yeremy Pino has probably earned a start and Jorgen Strand Larsen should return after suspension, with Ismaila Sarr likely to keep his place in the XI.That makes for a strong front three, so Newcastle’s defence will be tested at Selhurst Park. Select both teams to score at 8/13 with Smarkets Gordon on targetAbsorbing the loss of Alexander Isak was always going to be difficult for Newcastle United. The situation has not been helped by the fact that neither Yoane Wissa nor Nick Woltemade has set the world alight.Woltemade has been deployed either deeper or wider over the last couple of months and Howe will probably stick with that setup here. That would leave Anthony Gordon as Newcastle’s line-leader, and we like his chances of finding the net. Tip Anthony Gordon to score any time at 2/1 with BoyleSports Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United predicted lineupsCrystal Palace expected lineup: Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Riad; Johnson, Lerma, Hughes, Mitchell; Sarr, Strand Larsen, Pino.Newcastle United expected lineup: Ramsdale; Trippier, Botman, Burn, Hall; Joelinton, Tonali, Woltemade; Elanga, Gordon, Barnes.
