I’m so, so pleased for him, but I’m thinking about a United team you want to win the league and the Champions League, and that’s where United should be aiming.“I’m not sure you’d do that with Maguire, unless you’ve got someone like a Rio [Ferdinand] next to him, then possibly, yeah.”The Man United icon then went on to pick apart other members of the defence, indicating he wants to see a revamp at the back.He called for the Red Devils to sell Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and England international Luke Shaw.On Dorgu, who only joined the club in February 2025, Scholes said: “They brought him in as a wing-back and he’s not really played there.“I’d probably sell. I’m not sure what position he is. Again, if you keep him, then he’s just a squad player.”Scholes doesn’t think Maguire can make a difference for United in a title pushGettyScholes' Man United fire salePaul Scholes believes Man United should sell: Harry MaguireLeny YoroNoussair Mazraoui Patrick DorguLuke Shaw Manuel Ugarte Mason MountJoshua ZirkzeeScholes then went on to discuss Mazraoui and Yoro, saying: “I don’t know where he [Mazraoui] fits in. He’s been like a right-sided centre-half and they don’t play with three centre-halves any more.“If there are three centre-halves, then you’d probably have him as one of five or six, but I think it’s probably time to let him go now.“They paid a lot of money for him [Yoro], but I think he’s struggled.“I think there’s something in there, I think he needs a bit of time, but if you had to make a choice now, I’d probably sell him.”Meanwhile, explaining his shock pick for long-time left-back Shaw to be sold, Scholes said: “When he was playing consistently, I don’t think there is a better left-back in the world, not just Europe.“But if you’re asking me now – and he’s done alright appearance-wise this year – I’d sell him. He doesn’t play enough games.”Scholes would get rid of Shaw this summer after 12 years of serviceGettyHe would also be okay to let Yoro leave the club this summerAFPWho else would Scholes get rid of? Another England international would be put to the sword this summer by Scholes if he could choose to do so.Mason Mount, who continues to struggle hugely with injury issues, should be sold, according to the legendary midfielder. He reluctantly said on the ex-Chelsea star: “I’d probably sell him – and I like him, he’s a great footballer,’“But he’s never going to play in front of Bruno Fernandes. I’m not sure what other position he could play and he doesn’t play enough games.”And Scholes picked out Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte as players United should sell, simply predicting on the latter: “I think he’ll go.”Casemiro will also be leaving the club after announcing his departure at the end of his current contract at Old Trafford.Mount’s time at Man United has been marred by constant injuriesGettyScholes wants to see some new faces in midfield for UnitedGetty‘I’d take all three’Should Scholes get his wish to see Ugarte and Mount join Casemiro on the way out, Man United would have a shortage of midfielders. However, their clear transfer plan is to bring in one or two new faces to likely feature alongside Kobbie Mainoo.Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has been linked to United and Man City, while Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is linked too.Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba are another two names popping up as potential targets for the Red Devils this summer. And Scholes would like to see three of them coming in to freshen up the options in midfield at Old Trafford. He said on Tonali, Anderson and Wharton: “They probably need two of the three. I’d probably take all three.”Scholes wants a summer fire sale at his former club2023 James Baylis - AMA
