Shane Lowry just loves a hole-in-one.The Irishman has created an incredible collection of aces in his glittering career.Lowry is the hole-in-one kingGettyLast year he got a one on the 7th at Pebble Beach while he’s also done so on the 17th TPC Sawgrass and the 16th at Augusta National. On Saturday, he secured his second at Augusta, becoming the first player to have that honour by firing home his tee shot on the 6th.Lowry will now receive a large crystal bowl from Augusta bosses for his hole-in-one on Saturday, a special memento to remember his incredible feat by.Lowry, who also had another ace at the Houston Open just a few weeks ago, has put himself into contention to win the 2026 Masters thanks to his ace.“That’s wild, isn’t it? I made one a couple of weeks ago in Houston. You don’t ever expect to make a hole-in-one, I just couldn’t believe it,” said the former Open champion.“Obviously you’re out there and you’re in the hunt at the Masters and you’re making hole-in-one, it’s pretty cool.“The walk down the sixth hole with everyone around 16 and the sixth was very special. I’ll remember that for a while. It was obviously amazing.”From the thousands of shots made over the years at Augusta, there have only been 35 holes-in-one, with most coming at the 16th hole.Only seven players have ever made an ace on the 190-yard par-3 6th. Asked what it is about him and making holes-in-one on famous holes, Lowry simply said: “Maybe I’m just good.”Lowry is in contention to win the 2026 MastersGettyThe comment drew a huge laugh from the gathered reporters and Lowry then revealed he was actually just as happy about his next shot too.He added: “It obviously gives you a huge boost. You go from six-under to eight-under and then all of a sudden you’re only four back. It’s getting real now. “I felt like I did a great job of calming myself down afterwards.“I’ve talked a lot this week about how the only shot that matters is the next one.“I hit a great tee shot down the 7th and I was very happy and proud of that one because it’s easy to get flustered in scenarios like that when the adrenaline is pumping.“I was happy with that.”Shane Lowry's famous holes-in-oneAugusta National 16th, 2016 MastersAugusta National 6th, 2026 MastersTPC Sawgrass 17th, 2022 The PlayersPebble Beach 7th, 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AmMemorial Park 2nd, 2026 Houston OpenLowry hit a four-under 68 on Saturday and will resume for the final round just two shots off the leaders. The 39-year-old, whose sole major trophy to date came at the 2019 Open, has not claimed victory since the Zurich Classic in April 2024.He won that team event alongside great friend Rory McIlroy and he will now look to take down the defending Masters champion and get his hands on a green jacket.Fellow Ryder Cup star Justin Rose has also played his way into contention at the Masters yet again and has a shot at redemption after losing out last year to McIlroy in a play-off.The Englishman shot a second successive 69 to move to eight under, just one behind Lowry and three off the lead.Rose has yet another chance to win at AugustaGetty“After Saturday I was pretty crushed actually last year. I felt like I had really given away the Masters and any opportunity I had to win that day. I had way too many putts,” he said.“This week has been a lot more consistent from that point of view and so it feels a little different going into tomorrow.“I think I had to have a big mental reset going into the final round last year. This year it feels like a little bit of a free run at it.”His graciousness in defeat a year ago won him many admirers and he has felt that on his return to Augusta.“People have been pulling for me this week. That’s a double-edged sword,” he added.“If you get going with that momentum it can really, really help. If your game is not quite living up to their hopes for you, it can kind of feel frustrating at times.“So I’m happy that I’ve been able to play well and feed off it and I’m very grateful for the support.”
