Victor Wembanyama has made no secret of the fact that he would like to win the NBA MVP award this season, and he's certainly deserving. However, Wembanyama's candidacy is in jeopardy after he suffered a rib contusion against the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week, as the French Phenom currently sits one game shy of hitting the NBA's 65-game threshold for award and All-NBA eligibility. But, here's the good news: While Wembanyama isn't expected to play against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night due to the injury, he is expected to play in one of San Antonio's final two regular season games to maintain his award eligibility, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.San Antonio's final two regular season games come against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night and the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night. Wembanyama needs to play at least 20 minutes in one of those games to become award eligible. Assuming that he ultimately reaches eligibility, Wembanayma is a runaway favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year and he's a virtual lock to be named First-team All-NBA. He also has a real shot to win MVP as he occupies the top spot on the most recent iteration of the Kia MVP Ladder. This story will be updated. More NBA news: How the Bucks cost Giannis Antetokounmpo a major bonus with NikeFormer Grizzlies head coach named potential Doc Rivers replacement with BucksKristaps Porzingis gets brutally honest regarding his future with WarriorsHow Luka Doncic could still win NBA MVP award despite season-ending injuryZion Williamson gets brutally honest regarding his future with New Orleans Pelicans
