Christopher Okello Onyum, the prime suspect in the Ggaba toddler killings, has been committed to the High court to stand trial on four counts of murder. Onyum is accused of killing four toddlers; Gideon Eteku, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Ignitius Sseruyange and Ryan Odeke at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre on April 2, 2026. The children, aged between one and two-and-a-half years, were enrolled at a facility run by Ggaba Community Church that supports vulnerable and malnourished infants. According to committal papers filed by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the attack was premeditated. Prosecutors state that Onyum allegedly bought knives days earlier, rented a vehicle and visited the daycare while posing as a parent seeking admission, allowing him to survey the premises. On the day of the attack, he reportedly paid Shs180,000 in admission fees via mobile money shortly before launching a knife attack on children who were playing in the compound. Prosecution further alleges that he targeted the victims systematically and threatened a caretaker who attempted to intervene. He was later subdued by staff and members of the public before police arrived. Investigators recovered a bloodstained knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with two others found in his possession. Postmortem reports indicate the children died from shock resulting from severe injuries. Authorities also collected CCTV footage, DNA samples, mobile phones and transaction records linking the suspect to the scene. Prosecutors further state that although Onyum had no diagnosed mental illness, he allegedly believed in acquiring wealth through human sacrifice, pointing to a possible motive of ritual enrichment. The case now awaits hearing before the High court following committal by Makindye chief magistrate Sarah Basemera. The post Ggaba toddler murder suspect committed to High court appeared first on The Observer.
