Equity Bank Uganda has intensified its push into digital banking with the launch of a new platform aimed at reshaping how businesses manage their finances, signaling a broader industry shift toward technology-driven services.Unveiled on April 8 in Kampala, the platform Equity Online for Business marks a significant upgrade from the bank’s previous EazzyBiz system.According to Claver Serumaga, the Equity Bank Executive Director, the move is part of a long-term strategy to meet rising demand for faster, more integrated, and real-time financial solutions among enterprises.He emphasized that the new system is designed to align with the pace of modern commerce.“Businesses today expect immediacy, reliability and seamless integration. The platform consolidates key financial services such as payments, payroll, foreign transactions, and reconciliations into a single interface.” Serumaga noted during the launch event held at Protea Hotel Kampala.The rollout comes as banks across East Africa race to digitize operations, reduce reliance on physical branches, and capture a growing segment of tech-savvy entrepreneurs and SMEs. Hassan Abdullah, a long-time Equity customer using the platform, shared how the Equity Online for Business platform has transformed his day-to-day business operations.He said, “I used to be the first at the bank and the last to leave. Now I run almost everything from my desk or phone. We’re close to 100% digital, and honestly, this is one of the best platforms I’ve seen.”Analysts say Equity’s latest move positions it competitively in a market where convenience and speed are increasingly defining customer loyalty.Digital at the CoreEquity Online for Business offers real-time account visibility, automated reconciliations, and multi-currency management tools features aimed at helping firms optimize cash flow and make quicker financial decisions.The platform also integrates with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and supports host-to-host connectivity, enabling businesses to embed banking directly into their operations.“We are giving business owners full control to manage operations in real time. Upload files, pay salaries, approve international transfers. Everything you need is done instantly with no waiting or back-office delays,” said Immaculate Asiimwe, Head of Payments and Channels at Equity Bank Uganda.She added that security has also been enhanced, with multi-layer authentication including one-time passwords and token-based verification, reflecting heightened concerns over cyber risks as financial services migrate online.From April 8, all business customers are required to transition to the new system to continue accessing the bank’s digital channels, a move that underscores Equity’s commitment to a fully digital ecosystem.Industry Implications.The launch highlights a broader trend in Uganda’s banking sector, where institutions are increasingly investing in digital infrastructure to drive efficiency and expand reach.
