Angel Reese is officially a member of the Atlanta Dream. The first blockbuster domino to fall at the start of a new era in the WNBA with its ‘transformational’ Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Reese’s trade from the Chicago Sky sent shockwaves around the league. In 64 games across her first two seasons in the WNBA as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft, Reese averaged 14.1 points per contest, to go along with 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals. This saw her named an All-Star in back-to-back years. But the 2025 season was a huge disappointment for the Sky, who finished with a 10-34 record, tied for the worst record in the league.In light of the new CBA now having been struck, Reese will arrive at The A with a huge salary increase. The former LSU Tigers star – who is listed as the 16th-highest paid player in the WNBA – is set to see her base salary jump from $75,000 to $350,000 – an increase of 460 percent, per Spotrac. But that is far less than her biggest on-court rival Caitlin Clark, with the former No. 1 overall pick seeing her $85,000 salary rise to a whopping $528,000. Similarly, 2025 No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers will also hit the $500,000 mark in Year 2. Unsurprisingly, it sold out fast, with the Bayou Barbie’s mother Angel Webb Reese revealing she couldn’t even get one in her size ordered in time. “Dang yall couldn’t leave a med for me ,” she posted to X. Just eight hours after the blockbuster swap was announced, the Dream had already gained over 18,000 new followers on Instagram. On the other hand, with the Sky organization receiving significant backlash after the trade, they saw a sharp decline in their own follower count, losing over 11,000 followers in the same time frame.Furthermore, the Dream saw a huge surge in demand for tickets in the hours following the trade announcement. According to SeatGeek, for their home opener on May 17 against the reigning champions Las Vegas Aces, more Dream tickets were sold in the first two hours following the trade announcement than in the entire time leading up to it.
