Speaking on Friday, the Northern Irishman revealed what Nicklaus told him he needs to do to win another green jacket.“No f****** double bogeys,” McIlroy said with a chuckle.“Apparently, I made too many last year.”And so far, across his first and second rounds, he’s managed to avoid the dreaded double bogey at Augusta National. If he’s to continue that at the weekend, then the advice he took from the six-time Masters champion will help him make history. In fact, McIlroy had already made history going into the second round on Friday, as Thursday’s opening round was the seventh time he had held the 18-hole lead or co-lead in a major championship.Since the first Masters in 1934, only Nicklaus has done that more. The icon, who is now trying to help out McIlroy, did it nine times.Nicklaus gave McIlroy some X-rated advice for his title defenceGettyRor-ing into the leadMcIlroy was sitting at the top of the leaderboard going into Round 2, and he came flying out of the blocks on Friday.Three birdies in the opening four holes, with all of them coming consecutively, saw him cruise into a three-shot lead. A bogey at Hole 5 dropped him back one, but his start was impressive and proved that with the pressure off, he can thrive. And that form leaves him close to making some more history. No defending Masters champion has started the week with consecutive rounds in the 60s since Ian Woosnam in 1992.After a 67 on the opening round, anything from 69 downward would see him achieve a stunning 34-year first.McIlroy started the second round with three birdies in his first four holesGettyStill nervous McIlroy may not have the pressure of winning the Masters looming over him this year, but he’s still feeling the nerves. Speaking after his first round, he admitted: “We’re playing the first major of the year. It’s the Masters. If I felt absolutely nothing on that first tee, that’s not a good sign.“So it was nice to feel my hand shaking a little bit when the tee went into the ground, and struggle to put the ball on top of the tee. “I knew I was feeling it. That’s a good thing. That’s why we want to be here. We want to be able to try to play our best golf when we’re feeling like that.“That feeling went away. It’s not as if you feel like that the whole way around, but it was still nice to feel that on the first tee.”
