Last seen beating the boys in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar, Cy Fair (Not This Time) was all the rage at even money while making her return to the races in Friday's GIII FanDuel Limestone Stakes at Keeneland, but Flying Dutchmen Breeding & Racing's SLAY THE DAY (f, 3, Into Mischief–Mind Out, by Tapit) had other ideas, as she made best use of her race fitness to overtake the favorite inside the final 100 yards before holding off Sapphire Beach (Ire) (No Nay Never). Cy Fair was third.Whereas Cy Fair was allowed to make a run from off the speed to win the Algonquin Stakes and the Juvenile Turf Sprint, connections elected to leave nothing to chance and kicked the filly straight into the lead, covering the opening couple of furlongs in :21.78 while pressed along by Slay the Day to her outside.Cy Fair held the call turning into the stretch, but the lead was tenuous at best and Slay the Day–who took a Gulfstream turf sprint by four lengths in her first start over the surface last month–ground her way past and held sway to the line. The final time of 1:01.99 was a new stakes record for the Limestone, upgraded to Grade III status for the first time.Slay the Day is the 196th black-type winner and 99th winner at the graded level for Spendthrift standout Into Mischief.Sales history: $170,000 Ylg '24 KEESEP.
