Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna sided with Pope Leo XIV after US President Donald Trump went on to attack the Pope.Scicluna said that he is deeply concerned after the “unrestrained and unjustifiable attack” towards the Head of the Catholic Church. The archbishop reminded that the Pope reaffirmed the position of the Church throughout history, choosing peace over peace and hope over war and arrogance.He insisted that the Pope spoke the full truth when he insisted that the church will only ever promote peace, with a deep sense of humanity when he appealed to global leaders to listen to the voices of children who have been deeply scarred by the horrors of war. The Archbishop conveyed his concerns on this matter to the US Ambassador to Malta Somers Farkas, to assure her that the Church in Malta stands with the Pope. Scicluna had already met Farkas where they talked in extensive details about Malta’s Catholic community.Scicluna had already made comments about Trump about the current geopolitical context , where he prayed for global peace and made reference to Trump’s hubris and pride from a social media post.Trump called the Pope “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy,” within the latter’s capacity as the head of the Vatican City state, on a Truth Social post.
