I've always disliked em dashes, even for their grammatically correct uses, but if they're present a lot in AI it's only because they're following along the lines of things like Word. Word has had a hard-on for the last ten years or so for replacing en dashes and double-dashes to em dashes. I don't associate them with AI, I associate them with anyone using Word.
