Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool this summer, and will do so as one of the Premier League’s best ever left-backs.At least that’s according to talkSPORT presenter Jamie O’Hara, who was discussing the Scot with Jason Cundy on Sports Bar on Thursday night.Robertson will leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summerGettyRobertson’s contract is up at the end of the season, and the player and club have made the decision to part ways, bringing an end to a nine-year spell at Anfield.“Liverpool FC can confirm Andy Robertson will bring his Reds career to an end at the conclusion of the current season,” the club said in a statement on Thursday.“I’ve had an amazing nine years here,” Robertson, who was linked with a January move to Tottenham, said in a Q&A with the club. And Robertson’s legacy was discussed by O’Hara and Cundy in the wake of Liverpool’s announcement.‘One of the top-three greatest left-backs’One of the show producers suggested that Robertson was one of the top three left-backs in the Premier League.“You look at the names… and you think actually… maybe he is in this conversation,” Cundy started.“I think he is,” O’Hara replied. “Look Ashley Cole for me obviously, yes, is the greatest. Is out on his own.“And after that you look at the other left-backs. Patrice Evra…”Cundy then interjected: “Well in terms of numbers, let me just tell you Andy Robertson’s Premier League appearances. 373. 13 goals, 69 assists. Now that is insane for a full-back.“Trent’s numbers aren’t dissimilar from what I can gather, but we’re looking at left-backs here.“He outstrips John Arne Riise has 30. The closest to him is Ashley Cole, and he has 31. That’s the closest. He’s got 69…”“I think he’s in the Premier League top three greatest left-backs,” O’Hara said back to Cundy, to which the latter replied: “Well, go on then, who’s the other one then?”“Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole,” O’Hara stated.Cundy then threw a curve ball: “Maybe I’m old school, but for me, I’m putting Stuart Pearce in there. Stuart Pearce was a monster of a left-back. An absolute monster.”Robertson’s departure does mean that of the 2019 Champions League winning XI, only Alisson and Virgil van Dijk will be at the club beyond the summer.Even then, the Brazilian shotstopper has been linked with a move away from Anfield.Pennant isn’t convinced by MamardashviliGettyAnfield rebuild? And despite spending a substantial amount to bring in the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, Liverpool will need to undergo a substantial rebuild in the off-season.Speaking on Inside Liverpool, Jermaine Pennant and Sam Ellard believe there is plenty of work to be done on the squad when the transfer window opens.Starting with the goalkeeper, Pennant began: “As a No.1, [Giorgi] Mamardashvili, I don’t think is a No.1 goalkeeper. For me, he’s not better than [Caoimhin] Kelleher.“So, if you’re going to look for a full-time goalkeeper, that’s where you start.Moving on to the defence, Pennant continued: “In defence, I know we’ve got [Giovanni] Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet coming in and I’m quite happy with those two, so I wouldn’t put [Ibrahima] Konate as a starter.“I’d start Van Dijk alongside either of those.” Ellard then added: “We need a new right-back, I’m not sure we can go into next season with just Frimpong.”Liverpool need a “proper number 6” despite Gravenberch’s emergenceGetty“Yeah, I think we need a right back. I think we’ve missed Conor Bradley,” Pennant stated before turning his attention to the midfield.“We need a proper No.6. A solid, defensive-minded 6,” the former winger said.“Yes, [Ryan] Gravenberch has done well, he’s been amazing. But you see his position, at times, he gets lost and sidetracked as it’s not his natural position.“We look exposed at times. You look at the top 6s in Rodri, [Declan] Rice, they always seem to break up that play and we’re missing that.”“You could argue we need two new midfielders to come in,” Ellard chipped in.“One No.6, and [Alexis] Mac Allister has struggled badly, so I’d argue you have two central midfielders to come in.Inside Liverpool on talkSPORTtalkSPORT brings you Liverpool like no other.Stay ahead of every tactical shift, manager sacking and transfer rumour by making talkSPORT’s Inside Liverpool show your weekly go to for all things Reds related.Subscribe now to ensure you never miss a beat of the action one episode at a time, sponsored by BetMGM.Download the app or visit BetMGM.co.uk. 18+gambleaware.org“[Dominik] Szoboszlai’s been really good, and it would surprise me if the front three of Ekitike, Isak and Wirtz are all starting next season.“But with [Mohamed] Salah leaving, [Cody] Gakpo bang out of form and [Rio] Ngumoha being a young kid – and bare in mind we haven’t replaced Luis Diaz yet – I think we need another winger of some sort to come in, maybe a back-up option.”Pennant agreed with Ellard on the need another winger: “Yeah I agree, with Salah going, you need to replace that. You need some form of creativity out there and on the left as well.”Liverpool are yet to properly replace Luis Diaz, who left for Bayern Munich last summerGetty“So, we’re saying we need a new GK, a new RB, we’ve got the new CB coming in, two new CMs and a left winger…” Ellard stated as he rounded off what Liverpool needed this summer.“You don’t want to be that entitled fan saying spend, spend, spend after your team spent over £400million last season… but if we have aspirations of winning the league next season, we’re looking at possible half a dozen new players that need to come in.”Transitional LiverpoolEx-boxer and Liverpool fan Paul Smith then admitted that the Reds are potentially looking at another transitional season.“If you’re Slot, you’ve just won the league, £450m spent and then you have to knock on the owners door and say: ‘I need even more players now’,” Smith said.“The following season then, it’s another transitional period, another period trying to ease new players in.“So, the owners aren’t going to want to hear that and me just saying that now, I don’t want that, I want the old team to gel back together, or this team now.”Liverpool sit 21 points behind league leaders Arsenal1: Premier League Fixtures & ResultsHaving won the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut season, Liverpool have endured a dire defence of their crown and find themselves 21 points behind Arsenal with seven games to go.The Reds, having been brushed aside by Manchester City in the FA Cup last weekend, return to league duties with the welcome of Fulham on Saturday evening.
