Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 8000 ft (2400 m) altitude or flight level 080 and is moving at 10 kts in SE direction. The full report is as follows: VA TO FL080 OBS AT 08/1350Z, EXT SE EST VA DTG:08/1550Z to 8000 ft (2400 m)Whale Island (New Zealand): (8 Apr) Over the past week, favourable weather has allowed clear views from mainland cameras, revealing a weak steam plume rising from Whakaari/White Island. This aligns with observations made during an aerial survey on 4 April, when a bright white plume was seen emerging from the active vent. No new ash deposits or ballistic blocks were observed on the crater floor. Thermal imagery indicated maximum vent temperatures of approximately 100 °C.The volcano is not currently erupting, though volcanic activity can increase with little or no warning. Any future eruptions would most likely affect the crater floor and the immediate area surrounding the island, while ashfall on the mainland remains unlikely.Due to the current absence of real‑time monitoring data from the island, it is not possible to reliably distinguish between Volcanic Alert Level (VAL) 1 and 2. Consequently, Whakaari/White Island will remain at a minimum of VAL 2 until on‑island monitoring is restored.Fuego (Guatemala): Explosive activity continues.
