As per a recent report, plans are back on the table for a brand-new Disney park known as DisneySky.Disney has steadily expanded its global theme park footprint since opening Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, in 1955. Walt Disney World followed in 1971 with Magic Kingdom, marking the company’s first East Coast resort and laying the groundwork for what would become the world’s most visited vacation destination with four theme parks.Credit: DisneyInternational expansion began in 1983 with Tokyo Disneyland, the first Disney park built outside the United States. Disneyland Paris opened in 1992, followed by Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005 and Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, reflecting Disney’s growing focus on international audiences and rapidly expanding tourism markets.New parks have become increasingly rare in recent years, with Disney shifting attention toward expansions and reimagined lands within existing resorts. Projects such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the global rollout of World of Frozen show how the company continues growing its parks without building entirely new gates, with the addition of the latter to Walt Disney Studios Park marking its transition into a “new” park known as Disney Adventure World.Disney recently confirmed plans for a new theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, marking the company’s first park in the Middle East. Despite recent regional conflict, the resort is still set to be built on Yas Island in partnership with Miral, with Disney Imagineers leading creative design while Miral funds and operates the destination under license.Credit: DisneyA new report suggests that it isn’t the only new Disney park on the horizon.New Disney Park Back on the TableAccording to The Wrap, plans are back on for Tokyo DisneySky.Amid rumors that Disney is reconsidering its planned Avatar attraction for California Adventure, the publication spoke with former Disney Imagineer Jim Shull, who suggested the ride could be opened elsewhere. The list of potential alternative locations included DisneySky, which is apparently “back on the drawing board.”Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortShould the park come to fruition, it would join the resort’s existing two theme parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Tokyo Disneyland follows the classic castle park formula, featuring lands such as Adventureland, Tomorrowland, and Fantasyland, while Tokyo DisneySea is built around themed ports inspired by myths, exploration, and the sea.Notably, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers of Tokyo DisneySky.Rumors surfaced in 2018, when reports claimed Tokyo Disney Resort’s owner, The Oriental Land Company (OLC), was considering a third gate. OLC later issued a statement denying these reports, writing: “Some media outlets published reports dated February 4, 2018, concerning the expansion of Tokyo Disney Resort. However, these reports were not announced by our company.”It now seems that the plans are very much still possible. A “sky” theme would not only complete the idea of the land, sea, and sky at Tokyo Disney Resort, but would open the door for attractions inspired by the likes of Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Incredibles, and, yes, Avatar.Other Potential New Disney Parks on the HorizonRecent reports have floated other potential new parks for Disney’s global lineup.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortIt’s long been rumored that Shanghai Disneyland will receive a second park. Known internally as Project Atlas, the proposed second gate has reportedly gone through several iterations, with early concepts described as an EPCOT-style science and technology park focused on innovation and global culture.More recent reports suggest the concept has shifted away from that educational approach toward something more adventure-driven. Current speculation points to a park centered on large-scale Disney adventure franchises, with properties such as Avatar potentially playing a key role in shaping its lands and attractions.Would you like to see a third park at Tokyo Disney Resort? The post REPORT: Disney Secretly Working on New Theme Park Known as DisneySky appeared first on Inside the Magic.
