After a sweeping creative overhaul that saw original showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord replaced by Dario Scardapane, the series finally debuted on Disney+ in March 2025 to a reception that vindicated the painful behind-the-scenes reset. Now, with Season 2 currently airing weekly since March 24, 2026, a new possibility has emerged: could the Born Again finale be heading to cinemas?Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, has all but set fan imaginations ablaze after being asked about the prospect of Marvel Television following in the footsteps of other streaming giants. Speaking to The Escape Pod, Winderbaum stopped just short of making any firm promises, but his enthusiasm was unmistakable. “I want to do that so bad. Netflix proved the model works spectacularly when the Stranger Things finale grossed over $25 million across just two days theatrically. For a television production, those are remarkable numbers, and they signal something important: audiences are not simply content to watch landmark episodes of beloved shows on a laptop screen. The MCU has spent years building one of the most passionate and theatrically loyal fanbases in entertainment history. The notion of releasing a major Daredevil: Born Again episode into cinemas–particularly a season finale–is not just commercially sensible. It is practically a guarantee of a strong opening.Here is where things get genuinely fascinating. As it currently stands, Spider-Man: Brand New Day–the highly anticipated fourth solo Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland–is scheduled for a July 2026 theatrical release. The film is expected to be a major event for the MCU, continuing Peter Parker’s story following the emotionally devastating conclusion of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the world was made to forget he ever existed.Credit: Marvel StudiosBrand New Day carries enormous expectations. It is, by most measures, one of the most anticipated films in Marvel’s pipeline. Yet if the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finale (currently slated to air on May 5) lands in cinemas, it would mark a historic first. A Marvel Television production would beat a Marvel Studios theatrical tentpole to the big screen, blurring the line between the studio’s streaming and cinematic output in a way that has never quite happened before.It is worth noting that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock has already made the leap to film, appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2021. That brief but crowd-pleasing appearance demonstrated that audiences are more than ready to see the Man Without Fear on the big screen. Vincent D’Onofrio, who reprises his iconic role as Wilson Fisk with tremendous conviction throughout Born Again, has been candid about the frustrating reality surrounding his character’s future. Speaking to Josh Horowitz, D’Onofrio confirmed that rights complications currently prevent Kingpin from appearing in Marvel films. “Right now, I’m only usable for television series,” he said, adding that even a standalone Fisk movie is off the table for the time being. He later reiterated the point specifically in relation to Brand New Day, confirming he will not appear alongside Tom Holland in that film.It is a strange irony that one of the MCU’s most compelling villains is effectively ringfenced from the wider cinematic universe, but it does lend additional stakes to the television space.Credit: Marvel StudiosNone of this would have seemed possible a couple of years ago, when Born Again was being quietly dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up. The restoration of the Netflix-era cast–Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, and Ayelet Zurer–alongside Cox and D’Onofrio pushing hard to course-correct the show’s direction, ultimately produced something that fans and critics embraced. D’Onofrio himself described the effort to turn things around as stopping a moving train. Thankfully, it stopped in time.Now that Season 2 has arrived, and Marvel’s top streaming executive is openly musing about a theatrical finale, Daredevil: Born Again finds itself in an extraordinary position. The Man Without Fear could be the unlikely vanguard of Marvel’s next era–not just on Disney+, but on the biggest screen of all.
