Malta is among the countries with the lowest number of people living in houses across the EU, with most residents opting for flats instead.According to the latest “Housing in Europe – 2025 edition” data done by Eurostat, just 37% of people in Malta live in houses, placing the country among the lowest in Europe alongside Spain and Latvia.Across the EU, the picture looks very different. On average, 51% of people live in houses, compared to 48% in flats, but Malta clearly leans heavily towards apartment living.Countries like Ireland top the list, with a massive 90% of people living in houses, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium at 77%, and Croatia at 76%.Meanwhile, Malta’s dense urban environment and limited space continue to shape how people live, with flats dominating the housing landscape.The data also shows that while housing preferences and styles vary widely across Europe, Malta stands out as one of the countries where apartment living is the clear norm.What do you make of this percentage?•
