As expected, Trump has now turned his focus to reining in anyone who dares call this a non-victory for him. Crude oil had hit $144 on some markets, and had it reached the dreaded $150, the global economic consequences would have been unprecedented in the 21st century. Both sides clearly wanted this conflict to pause. Trump released a statement declaring Iran’s 10-point proposal “workable.” Israel also eventually agreed to the ceasefire — albeit begrudgingly. This war has perhaps been one of the most contentious and propagandized conflicts in the internet age. While carnage reigned on the ground, taking lives and devastating economies, both sides framed the war as a winning and justifiable cause. Trump was always confident he could declare victory at any point, and MAGA loyalists would follow without questioning whether his objectives were met. For Iran, the war may have triggered a rally-around-the-flag effect, driven by attacks on their infrastructure by Israel and the U.S. While the regime remains unpopular with large swaths of the Iranian population, reports suggest that the perception of an external threat poses an even larger danger to livelihoods. According to The Independent, Trump responded on Truth Social, saying, “The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows. Whether both sides agree with them, or how the Iranians frame their position going into negotiations, does not mean the public should have the truth hidden from them. Trump has said outrageous things, and so has the Iranian regime. After all the bombs, civilian deaths, and destruction, both sides have returned to the negotiating table. That is the real outrageous fact about this war.
