Sergio Garcia spoken to by Masters chiefs after destroying tee box and snapping club at start of final round

Wait 5 sec.

Sergio Garcia may be a former Masters champion but he could be in for a serious dressing down from Augusta chiefs tonight.Garcia has a long history of getting hot under the collar on the golf course and his fiery temper was on full show as the final round of the 2026 Masters got up and running.Garcia wound up to smash his club into the turfAnd scuffed up a large chuck of turfBefore taking another swing and causing more damageAfter bogeying his opening hole, Garcia stepped up to the par-5 second no doubt eager for birdie to hit back quick.Instead, he sent a wayward drive down the right and straight into the massive bunker which guards the dogleg.Upon viewing his ball leaking away from his target line, Garcia slammed his driver into the pristine grass on the tee box.Considering Garcia was only the sixth player to use the second tee to that point, the rest of the field will have to navigate around the damage he’s inflicted on it.The Spaniard also snapped the head of his driver after whacking a green drinks container as he exited the hole.Greenskeepers were seen tending to the damage once Garcia had departed.According to Sky Sports, Garcia was then seen being spoken to by someone in a green jacket as he made his way up the fourth hole, presumably getting a slap on the wrists for his antics. The LIV Golf star did still make par on the second hole but then proceeded to drop shots at the third and fourth holes.Garcia, who is in the field thanks to his lifetime exemption after winning the Masters a decade ago, attended Rory McIlroy’s Champions Dinner on Tuesday. And while he’s done well to make the cut this year, Garcia admitted at the start of the week he did not fancy his chances much after a difficult season on LIV so far.Garcia also broke his driver on a drinks boxHe said: “Not super happy at the moment, but we’re working, and we’ll see. “We’ll see what happens throughout the week. Yeah, at the moment I’m not feeling amazing.“There’s obviously good and bad [memories of Augusta], I guess. “But fortunately, there are some really good moments here. You try to think a little bit of some of those that you’ve lived in the past, and hopefully, you get more to build on.”Garcia won the Masters in 2017, beating Justin Rose in a playoff to claim his sole major title.Rose now has the chance to become a Masters champion again today as he starts the final round just three shots off the lead.Garcia won the Masters in 2017GettyThe 45-year-old Englishman is holding out hope he is a late bloomer and can still emulate McIlroy and complete the career grand slam.“Obviously I feel like I come at it from a point where I’ve achieved a lot in the game,” said Rose.“I can call myself a major champion, which is nice, but my ultimate goal is to win all four.“If I look at where I finished seconds in all the other ones, it’s not unrealistic to think it’s doable.“Obviously I’m leaving it late, but that would be the ultimate goal for sure.“It begins to feel comfortable. It’s always special. That, for me, is the magic that I’m comfortable here but never complacent.Rose has yet another chance to win at AugustaGetty“I feel like there’s always something to learn, something to push for. You’ve always got to respect the golf course. I think we’re seeing it this year.“You’ve got to be on point with your second shots otherwise you’re not holding the greens.“You enjoy the experience here Monday to Wednesday and then I don’t think you enjoy another golf shot for the rest of the week because there’s a high risk and high reward on every shot you hit here.”
