It took five years for me to get SSDI for my "hidden" disabilities, one denial and two appeals, and a saint for a lawyer. The court finally sent me for diagnostic testing, which revealed another disability, and I finally won based on that. I was like you with having had smaller and smaller apartments and selling things. We were badly malnourished to the point we had scurvy and were sick all the time because we could barely afford food. The only person I'd known that got disability right away was someone with end-stage kidney failure that had something like 6 months to live. Everyone else has to go through denials and absurd suggestions of work you could do (someone I know got told they could be a doll stuffer.)
