Hong Kong Horse of the Year Ka Ying Rising (Shamexpress) is one of the headline acts for FWD Champions Day at Sha Tin on April 26. A total of HK78 million (€8,522,110) is on offer across the three Group 1 races–the FWD QEII Cup (2000m), FWD Champions Mile and the Chairman's Sprint Prize (1200m). Overall, there are 38 entries for the three races (excluding reserves), 13 of them winners at the highest table.A winner of the Chairman's Sprint Prize in 2025, the gelding is aiming for his second win in what would be his 20th-consecutive victory by a Hong Kong-trained horse. He already met and exceeded Silent Witness's record of 17 consecutive wins earlier this year.Facing off against the record-setting Hong Kong wunderkind is Japan's G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen hero Satono Reve (Lord Kanaloa), who has been placed twice at the highest level in the wake of Ka Ying Rising. Native Approach (Too Darn Hot), a last-out winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai is also entered, as is Irish raider Comanche Brave (Wootton Bassett).Romantic Warrior (Acclamation), rated second in the world behind Ka Ying Rising, will contest the QEII Cup. A former Horse of the Year in Hong Kong, the gelding holds the global earnings record for a horse and the most Group 1 victories (13) by a Hong Kong-trained horse. He will attempt to become the first four-time winner of the 2000-metre race after winning in 2022, 2023 and 2024.G1 Japan Cup second and G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn) victor Masquerade Ball (Duramente) takes on the Hong Kong titan, as does G1 Neom Turf Cup hero Royal Champion (Shamardal). G1 Arima Kinen scorer Museum Mile (Leontes) is also part of the lineup, as is G1 Hong Kong Vase hero Sosie (Sea The Stars) among others. The FWD Champions Mile is one of the most contentious on the day, with four-time Group 1 winner Jantar Mantar (Palace Malice), Group 1 winner Docklands (Massaat) and Group 2 winner Strauss (Maurice) invading from foreign climes. The Hong Kong opposition includes multiple Group 1 winners Voyage Bubble (Deep Field) and Lucky Sweynesse (Sweynesse). Group 1-placed Red Lion (Belardo) and Hong Kong Derby hero Invincible Ibis (Hellbent) will also take part.Andrew Harding, executive director, racing, HKJC, said, “FWD Champions Day is always an outstanding day of racing, and we are delighted at the quality of the 2026 renewal.“We have 13 visitors from overseas, including Masquerade Ball and Royal Champion, who will test the mighty Romantic Warrior in what shapes as one the FWD QEII Cup's best renewals. Ka Ying Rising has won 19 races in a row, and his continued streak adds an increasing layer of excitement. In addition, our exciting four-year-olds will rise to the Group 1 challenge, including Invincible Ibis, Little Paradise and Stormy Grove.”The post Ka Ying Rising Headlines FWD Champions Day Entries appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
