Derek Chisora makes startling retirement U-turn and demands Deontay Wilder rematch

Wait 5 sec.

Just seven days after calling time on his boxing career, Derek Chisora has changed his mind. The 42-year-old hung up his gloves after trading leather with Deontay Wilder in his 50th professional outing at a packed-out O2 Arena. Wilder denied Chisora his fairytale ending earlier this monthGettyBoth men left it all in the ring in an enthralling, albeit ugly, slugfest that saw Wilder deck Chisora twice en route to a split decision victory. The fight was full of controversy, with Chisora’s trainer, Alexis Demetriades, storming the ring during the second round, and another one of ‘Del Boy’s’ corner men helping him up after he fell out of the ring for the first knockdown of the fight.Chisora was sent hurtling through the ropes for both knockdowns, and later blamed his defeat on ‘loose ropes’ and poor officiating from referee Mark Bates. Now, he wants to rewrite his ending by running it back with Wilder. “I’m very upset with the scoring,” Chisora told talkSPORT on Saturday at the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov event.“The two knockdowns that [were] given were pushes, and Mike Goodall and his stupid ring he put up as well.“The ropes were so loose it was an embarrassment. I’m not happy with that.“I’ll be honest with you: the whole thing was a shambles, on my side and his side as well. But I wanna get a rematch.”Chisora was seen wearing a “retirement is for p*****” t-shirt at the weekend, although he confirmed that he would only come back for a rematch with Wilder. It seems very unlikely that Wilder would take a back step and fight Chisora again at this stage in his career. We need a warm-up fight before we fight Tyson Fury, because AJ’s coming off an accident, he’s rehabilitating his body,” Hearn said in reference to the car crash Joshua was involved in at the back end of last year in Nigeria.“We’ll take Deontay Wilder as that warm-up fight, and then we’ll fight Tyson Fury in December.“By the way, I respect Wilder, and I think he looked much better [against Chisora] than he has done previously.“But let me tell you, Anthony Joshua will walk through Wilder within 3 rounds.”Boxing scheduleFor all the upcoming fights and results this year, check out talkSPORT.com’s  boxing schedule.
