Earlier today, the Armed Forces of Malta Operations Centre received a report from a diver regarding a suspicious object located underwater in the Għar Lapsi area.An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the AFM’s 3rd Regiment was promptly sent to the site. With support from the Malta Police Force, the area was secured and all necessary precautions were taken.The object was later identified as a British 4-inch Armstrong muzzle-loaded shell dating back to before World War I. It was safely recovered and transported to the Pembroke Ranges, where it was disposed of through a controlled detonation.The Armed Forces of Malta urge the public to follow these safety precautions if encountering suspected unexploded ordnance:Do not handle or move the object, Only take photos if it can be done safely without interference, Call 112 immediately and When in doubt, assume the object is dangerous and follow these steps.Stay safe if you encounter anything suspicious•
