Move over, Phillies Karen, there’s a new villain in town.Just weeks after a baseball fan drew social media furore for angrily accusing a father of stealing a home-run ball from her grasp and giving it to his son, another has joined her on the sporting wall of shame.Mahomes attempted to hand his headband to a young Chiefs fan last SundayX: @NFL_DovKleimanHowever, a Giants fan reached across and grabbed the band from his handsX: @NFL_DovKleimanIn NFL Week 3, the Kansas City Chiefs secured their first win of the 2025 season against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen trying to give his headband to a young supporter in the crowd.But as he tried to pass his gear to the young boy, Joey Masters, a woman standing nearby — who was wearing a Giants sweater — cruelly snatched it from their hands.“Yo, she just stole that from me,” the child is heard saying off camera, in a short clip that has since gone viral.Unsurprisingly, the fan who ripped Mahomes’ headband away sparked outrage on social media, and was dubbed the ‘Kansas City Karen’.Young Chiefs fans speaks out after Mahomes incident with ‘NFL Karen’Joey has opened up on the incident with local news station KCTV5, issuing an eight-word plea: “I just want that band back really bad.The ten-year-old added: “Patrick Mahomes walked over to me, locked eyes with me, tries to give me his headband and the woman just swoops in and snatches it from me.Joey’s mother, Mindy, also weighed in, saying: “It was such a great day. The players were amazing with us, the fans were, and just to have one person swoop in and take that from him is heartbreaking for a mother to watch.“I don’t want her to get hate mail, don’t want her to get death threats. Just give the child his headband back.”NFL fans drag ‘Kansas City Karen’ for viral incident“This woman is NASTY,” one person wrote on X, having watched the video. “See, that’s what’s wrong with sports! Players try to give s*** to kids and grown people can’t control themselves!” a second said.“Patrick Mahomes will take care of ya kid. Screw that lady,” a third wrote, tagging the Chiefs QB who led his team to a Week 4 win Sunday.“What is wrong with these people?” a fourth asked.In the days after the incident, New York native Nina Miller identified herself as the culprit, and offered her side of the viral story.Sharing a number of videos on TikTok, she first bragged that Mahomes ‘came to her’ to hand over the headband and thanked him for doing so.A video posted by the Chiefs suggested Mahomes tried to hand his gift to a young fanX: @NFL_DovKleimanThe culprit is then seen smiling as she holds the stolen headbandX: @NFL_DovKleimanThat post has since been deleted, and in a follow-up, Miller admitted that she had been mistaken.Giants fan ‘sorry’ for stealing Mahomes’ headbandShe added that she had later found out the boy was celebrating his 10th birthday at the game and apologised for taking his gift.“Guys, I just want to talk to you for one minute from my heart,” she began in the TikTok video.“At the game, with all the noise and all the excitement, I honestly thought that Pat Mahomes was giving me the headband. “I reached for it without thinking.“Later I found out that it was meant for that little boy for his 10th birthday.
