With a thrilling final furlong move, NAKATOMI (g, 6, Firing Line–Applelicious, by Flatter) went from last to first to win the GII Stoll Keenon Ogden Pheonix at Keeneland, 'Win and You're In' race for the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint held next month at Del Mar. Last of the sextet behind a headstrong Skelly (Practical Joke) who missed the break but rocketed up to set the pace, the 8-5 favorite had plenty of work to do as he trailed the entire way around the far turn. The field began to close in on the pacesetter who tossed up the white flag at the eighth pole and Nakatomi swung wide to join the calvary charge of closers. A gutsy effort from 17-1 longshot Durante (Distorted Humor) kept things tight to the line but Nakatomi got up in time to secure the win under Irad Ortiz Jr while 4-year-old Whatchatalkinabout (Dialed In) filled out the trifecta.
