Hey everyone, I’ve been living abroad for a couple of years now. Things are good here, I’m enjoying my work and have integrated as best as possible, but I must say, I really miss Johannesburg. 😅 It’s funny, I used to complain about so many little things back home, but now I find myself missing the very things I used to moan about. In Joburg, I was always chasing “better,” a better house, better restaurants, better everything. But now I find myself longing for the simple things. I miss grabbing a seafood platter at Ocean Basket, stopping by Impala Florists in Northcliff for some beautiful fresh flowers, or picking up Indian groceries in Greenside. I miss the lovely home industries, the amazing food, and most of all, my people. ❤️ I miss how every area in Joburg feels so unique: tea at De La Crème in Melville, walks through The Wilds, the vibrant flea markets, the African fabrics, the Indian crafts at the Oriental Plaza… there’s just so much character and warmth there. 44 Stanley, Mungo linen shop, gorgeous book shops in Melville, Jacarandas at Wits University, Kara Nichhas snacks, Sunsets from Northcliff Ridge, the smells of Africology in Parkhurst, the rainbow cake at Walnut Grove, the weekend farmers markets, antique shop hopping on Long Street in Newlands, the list goes on! I miss our shared history, the rush, the laughter, even in the difficult times. That spirit, that resilience, that Joburg energy, there’s nothing quite like it. See you soon, Joburg. I love and miss you, and all you fantastic people who make it what it is. 🇿🇦✨ Joburg, you have given me so much, and I will always treasure you, and you will always be my home! submitted by /u/Jumpy_Wing_7884 [link] [comments]
