Sudesh Singh, a 15-year-old resident of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, died on Friday after his 50-year-old stepfather reportedly chopped him several times.Police Headquarters reported that Singh resided with his 35-year-old unemployed mother, Roshanini Surujballi, and his stepfather in the lower flat of a two-storey wooden and concrete structure.On Friday at around 14:30 hrs, the teen and his stepfather had a misunderstanding over the man’s bicycle, which the teen had used, and caused the chain to slip. As a result, an argument ensued between them and the stepfather reportedly ran into his kitchen, picked up a cutlass, rushed towards Singh and chopped him. This caused the teen to receive injuries to his neck area, and he fell to the ground.The stepfather then walked out of the yard and went to the Leonora Police Station, where he reported the matter. He was arrested and placed into custody pending further investigation.On arrival at the scene, the Police found the teen lying motionless, face upwards under the house, bleeding at his neck. A cutlass was seen near the body. The entire scene was processed, and several persons in the area were questioned.Singh’s was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, then to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour for storage, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
