The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, has urged Ugandans to exercise calm and responsibility while using social media platforms.Speaking during a parliamentary sitting, Hon. Baryomunsi warned that continued misuse of social media could compel regulators and authorities to introduce stricter controls.He expressed concern over what he described as disturbing online behaviour, where some users celebrate people’s deaths or wish harm upon others.There is a strange behaviour where a section of Ugandans celebrate people’s death and even wish those who are alive to die. Let us remain humane, especially in the advent of social media.Ugandans should not push us to introduce strong regulations for the social media space because it is being misused.The minister made the remarks as Parliament paid tribute to the late Kalangala District Woman MP, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, who passed away on Sunday following a failed surgical procedure.Hon. Nakimuli was remembered as an outspoken, vibrant, and cheerful legislator. She served as the Shadow Minister for Information and was widely admired for her active participation in sports within Parliament.
