The Maltese women water polo team make history after finishing 10th at the World Cup Division II in the World Aquatics WPO World Cup 2026, marking the end of their journey in the tournament after a 19-9 defeat by Germany on Sunday.This result marks a historical unprecedented achievement for both waterpolo and women’s sport in Malta.The Maltese team finished their journey with three wins under the belt, as during their last game Elena Borg was Malta’s leading scorer with four goals. Coached by Cousin Aurelien Nicolas, the team finished the competition with 48.7 points, ranking 10th, two places above Germany who ranked in 12th place.The World Aquatics WPO World Cup 2026 Division II was held in the National Pool Complex at Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex.
