Doctors Hospital Seguku On the Spot Over Patient Discrimination

Doctors Hospital Seguku has come under scrutiny following complaints from patients who allege unfair treatment when using health insurance. The concerns were raised by several Ugandans led by Abraham Luzzi, during a news item aired on NBS Live at 9 on Monday evening. The group accused some hospitals of frustrating patients who rely on insurance, allegedly prioritising those who pay cash.According to the complaints, delays by certain insurance companies in processing and harmonising payments with healthcare providers have created tensions within the system. “I want to give an example of a facility like Doctor’s hospital in Seguku, one of the best facilities in the country but it’s on record for tossing patients back to back. They have also reached a point of blacklisting some insurance providers over inconsistencies like these ones.” One of patients complained. As a result, some hospitals are said to prefer immediate cash payments over insured patients, leaving many unable to access timely medical care.“We are seeing a trend where hospitals act at their own discretion because of delays from insurance providers,” Luzzi said, noting that the situation is affecting ordinary Ugandans who depend on insurance coverage.Patients claim that the delays have led to longer waiting times, denial of services, or requests for upfront payment despite having valid insurance policies. This has sparked frustration among policyholders, who argue that they are being unfairly penalised for issues beyond their control. The matter has raised broader concerns about coordination between healthcare facilities and insurance companies in Uganda. Critics say weak enforcement and lack of clear accountability mechanisms are enabling the problem to persist. The affected group is now calling on the government to intervene and ensure all parties hospitals and insurers alike are aligned to protect patients’ rights. They argue that stronger regulation and timely payment systems are necessary to restore confidence in the healthcare and insurance sectors.Authorities have yet to issue an official response, but the issue is expected to intensify debate around healthcare access and insurance reliability in the country. The post Doctors Hospital Seguku On the Spot Over Patient Discrimination appeared first on The Insider.
