Alex Borg used today’s mass rally to unveil a major vision for Malta’s healthcare system, promising a transformation aimed at reducing waiting times, improving services and focusing more on people’s wellbeing.Speaking to supporters, Borg said the current health sector must evolve to meet growing demand, with patients needing faster access to treatment, more efficient systems and better facilities.Among the headline proposals was the creation of new hospitals, including a North Hospital and a new hospital in Gozo.He also said the existing Paola hub would be transformed into a hospital, while Mater Dei Hospital would be strengthened to provide better services for the level of demand currently being faced.Borg also announced plans for a Centre for Good Wellbeing, aimed at placing more importance on prevention, mental health and healthier lifestyles.Another key pledge was a new process within the health system designed to reduce waiting times for operations and improve how patients move through treatment pathways. The proposals were presented as part of a wider effort by Partit Nazzjonalista to modernise healthcare and tackle one of the issues most frequently raised by the public — long waiting times.Healthcare is expected to remain a major battleground issue as Malta heads toward the 30th May general election.•
