The Supreme Court delivered a 6-3 decision limiting the use of the landmark Voting Rights Act, ABC News reports. In their opinion, which split along ideological lines, the justices struck down Louisiana’s voting map, finding that it was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.New York Times: “It is unclear how the decision will impact the midterm elections amid the nationwide redistricting battle that has spiraled already into multiple states. Coming in the middle of the primary calendar, there are still multiple states, including Florida and possibly Tennessee, that could draw new maps, citing today’s decision. And Louisiana will likely lose one Democratic district.”Rick Hasen: “It is hard to overstate how much this weakens the Voting Rights Act.”
