Cyrus Engerer has expressed support for newly elected, and first ever independent KSU President Nick Muscat following the recent university election. In a social media post reacting to the result, Engerer said Muscat’s campaign reflects what the country needs: “a new democratic system, away from the old parties and built around the people.”He pointed to the outcome as a sign that many students “grew tired of the university system and voted for change”, linking it to wider public sentiment in Malta.Engerer also criticised structures he claims favour the country’s two main parties, referencing issues such as control over institutions, party financing, and access to public spaces like billboards. He added that key democratic elements, including election timing, remain influenced by whoever is in government.Despite the challenges ahead, Engerer said Muscat and his team now have the opportunity to push for change, concluding: “We wish them well. This is what Malta needs.”Do you agree with Engerer’s sentiment?•
