If they are ethically breeding it’s incredibly hard to make a profit. When we were offered the chance to do a second litter we calculated we needed at least 6 puppies to break even at breed prices, 10 for the price we were selling them as service dogs in training for children with autism. There are so many vet bills and testing that is done it’s insane. Not to mention the environment, stimulation, early training, property damage… it seriously adds up. Most ethical breeders are doing it for love and passion of the breed.
