Nationalist Party (PL) leader Alex Borg said Malta’s strong economy must be used to improve people’s lives as he addressed the nation following the announcement of an early general election.In a televised speech, originally scheduled for 8.30pm but delivered at 9.30pm, Borg described the vote as a “moment of truth”, insisting it should focus on substance rather than “billboards” or campaign optics.He emphasised that the election is an early one and said it should centre on the real needs of the Maltese and Gozitan people.Borg said the Prime Minister’s decision to call an early election marked a significant political moment and invited the country to reconsider its direction.He stated that the PN is ready to offer “a new breath” for Malta, pledging leadership focused on improving quality of life while maintaining economic strength.He highlighted key concerns including the cost of living, housing affordability, traffic congestion, environmental pressures and work-life balance.
