Arc Hero Daryz Heads Field of Six for Sunday’s G1 Prix Ganay

Last year's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Daryz (Fr) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is set to face five rivals in Sunday's G1 Prix Ganay World Pool by PMU at ParisLongchamp after declarations for the 10 1/2-furlong contest were confirmed Friday morning. The Aga Khan Studs homebred is in fine fettle ahead of his seasonal debut according to Francis Graffard, who has ambitious plans for the four-year-old further down the line.“He's in fantastic shape and looks amazing,” the trainer reported earlier this week. “I started working him some time ago because he's quite a strong horse and had put some condition on. I didn't want to have him taking me too much time to get him fit and he's been training really well. It was always the plan to start him in the Ganay and the horse is ready to go. I won't be scared to drop him back to the [9 1/4-furlong May 21 G1 Prix] d'Isphahan as I think he has enough speed for that. I'm pleased with him and happy to start over [an extended] 10 furlongs.”Fellow Graffard trainee Azimpour (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) was the only overnight defection from Europe's first Group 1 contest of the year.Andre Fabre, who won last year's renewal with Sunday's G1 FWD QEII Cup contender Sosie (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), holds the modern-day record of eight wins and has three entered this time around. The veteran maestro will be represented by Bright Picture (Fr) (Intello {Ger}), Cualificar (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) and Wathnan Racing's First Look (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), who finished first, third and fourth, respectively, in this month's G2 Prix d'Harcourt at the Bois de Boulogne venue.Analysing the prospects of the latter, Richard Brown said, “He worked Tuesday morning and Andre was very happy with him. This looks like it will be a very deep Ganay, but he's got two runs under his belt. He's coming up against an Arc winner here, but he does have fitness on his side and the trip is ideal for him. It's a big ask, but we will give it a crack.”Waltraut Spanner's homebred G1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Arrow Eagle (Fr) (Gleneagles {Ire}), a Jean-Claude Rouget-trained half-brother to undefeated Prix du Jockey Club and Arc winner Ace Impact (Ire) (Cracksman {GB}), and G1 Prix Vermeille heroine Aventure (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), from the Christophe Ferland stable, complete the line-up.The post Arc Hero Daryz Heads Field of Six for Sunday’s G1 Prix Ganay appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
