The Malta Development Association (MDA) has welcomed an initiative by Transport Malta to open privately-owned car parks to the public outside normal operating hours. The association described the proposal as a “sensible and timely measure” that could help ease parking pressures in several localities.According to the MDA, many privately-owned parking facilities remain underutilised, particularly during evenings and weekends. It said making better use of these spaces offers a practical way to increase availability without putting further strain on land resources. The association added that allowing controlled public access could provide immediate benefits for both residents and visitors. It also welcomed the consultation process launched by Transport Malta, saying engagement with stakeholders will be key to ensuring the scheme is workable in practice. The MDA encouraged operators to take part in the consultation as discussions continue on improving parking and accessibility across Malta. Is this a real solution?•
