This is gonna sound petty but I need to get it off my chest. About four months ago my neighbor [call her D] mentioned she had an early flight and didn't want to pay for parking. I was off that day anyway, airport's like 25 minutes from us, so I offered. No big deal. That was apparently a mistake. Since then she's asked me for a ride seven times. SEVEN. Not all airport, sometimes it's "can you drop me at the mall, my car's in the shop" or "hey I have a doctors appointment downtown could you swing by." Every single time she frames it like it's barely an inconvenience, like "it'll only take you like 20 minutes" - as if my free time has no value because I work from home. Last Tuesday she knocks on my door at 8am and asks if I can drive her to pick up her car from the mechanic. It's 40 minutes away. I said I actually had calls that morning (true) and she goes "oh it won't take long, you can do your calls after." I just kind of stared at her. When I said no she got this tone and said "I thought neighbors were supposed to help each other." Which okay, sure. But I helped her once and now it's somehow a standing arrangement?? The thing that really got me is she mentioned to another neighbor that I've been "less friendly lately." Not that she's been asking too much. That I'VE changed. I should note she has a perfectly working car 90% of the time and has never once offered anything in return. Not even a "let me buy you coffee." Notihng. I've started pretending I'm not home when she knocks. submitted by /u/BawdEft [link] [comments]
