I recently moved flats and had a decent wooden desk that I didnt need anymore. It is not brand new or anything but still in really good condition, solid, clean, no damage. I listed it for free just to get it out quickly and figured someone who actually needs it would be happy to take it. Got a message pretty fast from someone who said they just moved and really needed furniture, so we arranged a pickup. They showed up, looked at the desk for maybe five seconds and immediately started making comments about how it was “darker than expected” and “kind of bulky”. I thought they were just thinking out loud, but then they asked if I had anything lighter or more modern looking instead. I said no, this is the only one I am giving away. They kind of hesitated and then said they would take it anyway because they needed something for now. About an hour later I get a message from them saying they set it up and it “doesnt match the vibe” of their room at all. Then they asked if I could help them find a different desk and maybe even drop it off since they “dont have transport”. I honestly thought they were joking but they kept going, saying since I already helped once it would be nice to “finish the job”. I just replied that it was a free desk and they are welcome to pass it on if they dont like it. They havent responded since, but I am still confused how someone can go from needing free furniture to critiquing the aesthetic like that. submitted by /u/lanternwickledg [link] [comments]
