However, Crook remains cautious, saying: “I think a struggle next season is on the cards and I could see the club fighting relegation but it remains an impressive recruitment model from Matthew Benham.”BrightonCurrent manager: Fabian Hurzeler League position: 6thThe 33-year-old became the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history upon replacing De Zerbi in 2024. While he has been linked with German club Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton are reportedly hopeful of retaining him with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2027.The Seagulls ended up appointing Hurzeler to replace De ZerbiGettyCrook said: “I’m delighted for Hurzeler that he’s been able to turn it around. Iraola is a name I have heard, and he has said he would like to manage a London club in the past.“Eddie Howe was mentioned but that was closed down quickly, it seems they want to go for experience rather than an untested manager and Iraola who has led a club like Bournemouth to historic European qualification would tick all the boxes.Crystal PalaceCurrent manager: Oliver Glasner League position: 13thThe Austrian revealed he would leave the club in January after he said he felt ‘abandoned’ after the sale of Marc Guehi happened to Manchester City, behind his back.Crook stated: “There’s been a little talk from fans that he might make a U-turn if he’s able to win the Conference League.“I don’t think that will happen, that’s not the impression I’m getting. He has extended is deal with England so that won’t happen, I think there’s a reluctance from the board to wait after the World Cup for managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti.“Julian Nagelsmann has got support in the hierarchy.“You’ve also got options from home, Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva are not an upgrade on Carrick. I also love Iraola, but I don’t know if he has the personality to manage a club like Manchester United.“I think once the top five is secured, the board will move quickly. I would be interested to see how long the deal would be but I think Carrick would at least want a two-year deal.”Carrick has led Man United towards securing a Champions League placeGettyNewcastle UnitedCurrent manager: Eddie Howe League position: 14thCrook said: “I don’t think he will be sacked because he signed a long term contract which will be an expensive deal to remove him from. “If he does leave Newcastle, which it looks the case, it’s far more likely he decides he has got the club as far as he can.“Last summer, the hierarchy made it far too hard to bring new players in. It felt like they was panic buying with Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade. Neither was anywhere near the top of their list at the start of summer, as I understand.“They are going to have to sell players again, especially with the interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal for players like Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.”Commenting on Xabi Alonso being a rumoured contender for the job, Crook said: “I don’t think Newcastle are ambitious enough for him. It seems the Saudis are not as committed as they was at the start of the project, partly due to PSR restraints.Howe achieved generational success at Newcastle as he guided them to a first major trophy in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup last seasonGettyNottingham ForestCurrent manager: Vitor Pereira League position: 16thPereira only got the job in February but his long-term future is uncertain, with links to Fulham boss Silva persisting.Crook said: “I always felt if Marco Silva was to leave Fulham, I could see him at Forest. He has a good relationship with Evangelos Marinakis during his time at Olympiakos where they eventually won the league together.“Pereira could go and win the Europa League but I’m not entirely sure he’s there for the long haul.”Pereira looks set to achieve his immediate goal of steering Forest away from relegationGettySunderlandCurrent manager: Regis Le Bris League position: 12thThe Black Cats have coped the best of the promoted teams having made a stunning start to season which saw them get into the top four.Form faded in the second half of the season but Sunderland have survived with relative comfort. That may not be enough for the Frenchman, however.Crook stated: “Keep an eye on Regis Le Bris, if they don’t qualify for Europe there’s been a couple of suggestions for me that maybe the hierarchy are considering a change at the end of the season.”Tottenham HotspurCurrent manager: Roberto De Zerbi League position: 18thDespite relegation fears, De Zerbi seems committed to the long haul, even if it is in the Championship.On De Zerbi’s future, Crook said: “I think there would be a pay cut coming his way if they don’t stay up, but he said he was committed for the long haul and he signed a five-year contract.“I think if they do go down, it won’t be De Zerbi’s fault or even Igor Tudor, it will be on the hierarchy for sticking with Thomas Frank for too long.Tottenham have to wait until Sunday evening when they face Aston Villa to continue their fight for safetyGettyWest HamCurrent manager: Nuno Espirito Santo League position: 17thThe Portuguese remains another manager in the relegation battle with the Hammers currently two points above the drop.On Nuno’s situation with West Ham, Crook said: “In terms of Nuno, if they go down, there certainly will be conversations.“Because the board will feel he’s had a majority of the season to save them so it’s not certain he will stay if they go down. If they do stay up, I think he will be fine.”Nuno was appointed Hammers boss in September after the sacking of Graham PotterGettyWolvesCurrent manager: Rob Edwards League position: 20thThe ex-Luton boss is expected to stay on in the Championship, though fan patience is wearing thin amongst the fans.On Edwards, Crook said: “I think he will certainly be sticking around in the Championship, when they appointed him they knew where the likely destination they would be next year.“He’s had some high moments this season, with the games at Liverpool, Arsenal and Villa. “But as a whole, it’s been a disappointing season and I think he has to hit the ground running, certainly in the eyes of the fans, patience is in short supply especially amongst Wolves fans.”
