Dalton Smith pulls out of Alberto Puello world title fight with injury as new main event named

Dalton Smith has been ruled out of his world title defence against Alberto Puello.Smith picked up the WBC super-lightweight title with a stunning victory over Subriel Matias in January on US soil.View Tweet: https://twitter.com/galal_yafai?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwHe was due to make a Sheffield homecoming in his first defence of the belt against tricky southpaw Puello on June 6.But Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom Boxing have released a statement confirming Smith will no longer feature on the bill.He has picked up an undisclosed injury in camp and will be unable to fight.As a result, Galal Yafai’s huge world title shot against unified champion Ricardo Sandoval will top the bill.It has been upgraded with the Briton trying to step into the shoes of the home favourite.For Smith it is a bitter blow, with huge plans to first take out Puello and chase unification fights at super-lightweight.Some of boxing’s biggest names reside in the division including pound-for-pound superstar Shakur Stevenson, who he is keen to face.It is currently unclear if the bout will be rescheduled, or if an alternative opponent will be sought upon his return.Breaking news.
