Manchester United must join the race to sign Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi – and also snap up his teammate Alex Scott. That’s the view of talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook, who believes the pair would be smart additions to the Red Devils squad.Senesi will be departing Bournemouth at the end of the season once his contract expiresGettySenesi has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders since the Cherries signed him from Feyenoord in 2022.Clubs across Europe are already scrambling to secure his services, with Chelsea linked with a move during the winter transfer window. But talkSPORT understands that Tottenham have agreed a deal in principle to sign the player – depending if they remain in the Premier League. With Spurs sitting in 18th spot with four games to go – and two points off safety – that deal would be scuppered if they drop into the Championship.Waiting in the wings should a switch to north London fall through are Juventus and Atletico Madrid.Cherry pickedBut Crook wants United to try and hijack Spurs’ move for Senesi as the club look to build a squad capable of fighting on all fronts with Champions League qualification all-but secure.Speaking on the latest episode of talkSPORT’s Inside Devils, the panel discussed the need for United to bolster their backline.Question marks remain over the fitness of Matthijs de Ligt, who has been out since November with a back issue, while Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven still need time to develop. As a result, Crook urged United to make a move for the three-cap Argentina international. He said: “In terms of depth, I’m a little bit surprised that we’re not showing more interest in Marcos Senesi down at Bournemouth.Michael Carrick could oversee another squad overhaul in the summer if he becomes the club’s permanent managerGettySenesi is understood to have agreed a pre-contract deal to join TottenhamGetty“Available on a free transfer, proven in the Premier League… Chelsea had a look.“Tottenham I think have got a pre-contract agreement [with Senesi] if they stay up.“And just in terms of a body, I think that would be a useful acquisition.”Fellow United fan and presenter Angelina Kelly agreed with Crook, while declaring any player would rather make the move to United over Spurs. She remarked: “You look at some of the Forest centre-backs as well [Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic], could be good options.“But I agree [about Senesi], if you’re a footballer, [and] you’re looking at Spurs, [or] Man United, you know which one that you’d like to go with.Senesi has missed just one of the Cherries’ 34 Premier League games this term“Maybe another reason why everyone will want Spurs to go down, because then, if that pre-contract agreement goes out the window, then we’re sorted!”To which United fan and broadcaster Flex joked: “If Spurs are one for getting deals organised, and then all of a sudden, they’re not there [in Premier League] anymore…“Let them do all the leg work and then we will just come in at the end.”Having the final say, Crook then quipped: “[Until] a proper football club comes in.”Crook also stressed United must improve their midfield, and offered up an alternative option should they fail to bring in Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton from Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace respectively.talkSPORT reported in January how United will be freshening up their midfield with Casemiro to depart, while Manuel Ugarte could be sold in a cut-price sale.Scott is in his third season at the Vitality Stadium since moving Selhurst Park.Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is another option for United, though Crook is of the opinion that Scott should be targeted. He added later in the show: “Obviously the midfield targets are well documented.“I’m coming around to the idea of Alex Scott at Bournemouth.“I think he’s a terrific player and he’s not going to cost £100m like Elliot Anderson.“I’ve said all along, I think Elliot Anderson will end up at Man City.Scott has featured in every top-flight match this term to help Bournemouth reach seventh in the table“So I think they’ll buy one big-hitter in midfield, be that a [Carlos] Baleba, probably, Adam Wharton I think will end up at Liverpool.“But then a slightly cheaper option, and I think Alex Scott ticks a lot of those boxes.”As United look ahead to the summer,
