White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a presser on Monday after the attempted assassination of Trump and his Cabinet members.An armed man stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton and sprinted past a Secret Service checkpoint during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.President Trump, First Lady Melania, Vance and others were safely evacuated amid the shooting. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter, Cole Allen, 31, will appear in federal court on Monday.Leavitt blasted the Democrats for refusing to fund the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Secret Service. “Saturday night was supposed to be a joyful evening, celebrating free speech and the First Amendment with all of you, members of the press,” she said.“Instead, the night was hijacked by a crazed anti-Trump individual who traveled across the country to assassinate the president and as many administration officials as possible,” Leavitt added.“This is the third major assassination attempt against President Trump in two years. No other president in history has faced such repeated serious attempts on his life,” she said. “President Trump was intent on speaking to this brave agent to ensure he was okay, and the agent assured the president that he was,” Leavitt added.
