This is what I saw to people who want one of my custom quilts for the price of a $79 Walmart blanket. I tell them to go to Walmart then because my quilts are too expensive for them. One lady kept insisting that it couldn't possibly cost as much as I quoted. I told her how much fabric costs, she scoffed. I gave her a quantities list and locations of 5 local quilt shops to purchase her fabric, batting, and top stitch thread. I told her once she buys all those items, look at the receipt and double it for my fee on a simple quilt. Triple it for medium complex. And that if she wanted something super complex, expect it to take a couple months and cost at minimum 5 times her materials cost. Supplies and half the fee up front, remainder at completion and if she didn't pay, no reimbursement for the supplies. Never heard from her again. Yay! (Gotta love those fuck you quotes)
