Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has suggested that James Maddison could be poached this summer by his former club. The attacking midfielder has been an unused substitute for Tottenham in their last two games, as he continues to recover from the ACL injury, which has seen him miss the whole season until now.Reports indicate that Spurs are hoping that Maddison can feature for them before the end of the season, as the Lilywhites desperately try to avoid relegation. However, it has now been suggested that the 29-year-old could be on his way out of N17 if Roberto De Zerbi’s men fail to secure their Premier League status.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramJames Maddison could leave Tottenham to return to Coventry CityFormer Spurs scout, Mick Brown, who remains well-connected with industry sources, believes that Maddison could be poached by Coventry City after the club sealed promotion to the Premier League. He suggested that the Tottenham Hotspur star, who came through the ranks at the West Midlands club, could be tempted to make a fairytale return to his boyhood club if the Lilywhites go down.Brown told Football Insider: “James Maddison to Coventry City has got legs. He’s made no secret about the fact he’s a fan of the club, he came through the ranks there, so it’s a deal that could pull at his heartstrings. First thing’s first, he has to get his fitness back and that will be his priority.“Once he does that, then a decision can be made about his future. If Tottenham go down, he might not be interested in playing in the Championship.“Coventry could take that opportunity to bring him back to the Premier League, I think they’re more likely to take that gamble than anybody else would be. It’s going to be a concern for a few clubs, he has to prove his fitness and that he can stay playing at the top level, because it can take a while to recover.“But Coventry would be able to give him the time and be patient with him, and it’s an environment where he would feel comfortable. So, like I say, he will have to prove he can get over the knee problem but if he can be ready for pre-season, a move to Coventry would make a lot of sense.”Coventry plotting a move for another Spurs midfielderIt turns out that Maddison may not be the only experienced Tottenham midfielder being eyed by Frank Lampard’s side ahead of their return to the top-flight.It was reported by TEAMtalk a couple of days ago that Coventry are plotting a move for Conor Gallagher this summer as they look to add some proven Premier League experience to their squad. However, other sources have claimed that Spurs have decided to hang onto both Gallagher and Maddison even if they get relegated.READ MORE: Two clubs could still hijack Tottenham’s deal for Marcos Senesi despite verbal agreementThe post ‘James Maddison to Coventry City has got legs’ – Tottenham nightmare scenario revealed appeared first on Spurs Web.
