FFXIV Free Trial Now Includes Shadowbringers Expansion

Wait 5 sec.

During the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival keynote during the Anaheim, California event in April 2026, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the FFXIV Shadowbringers expansion would be part of the free trial experience. Now it is officially included alongside the base game and previous two expansions Heavensward and Stormblood. However, many of the other restrictions on the experience are still in place. Also, this does apply to newcomers, and someone who previously subscribed would need to get a new time card or wait for a free login campaign to return. However, if someone was already in the midst of the free trial before this change happened, they’ll now find they have access to Shadowbringers too as of April 28, 2026.  Here’s how the FFXIV free trial works, for reference. After making a new Square Enix account, you can download it on the PS5, Xbox Series X, or PC. You can then make up to eight characters on one data center and get them up to level 80. All of the jobs and races from the base game and three expansions are available. This means you could be an Astrologian, Bard, Black Mage, Dancer, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Gladiator, Gunbreaker, Machinist, Monk, Ninja, Paladin, Red Mage, Samurai, Scholar, Summoner, Warrior, and White Mage.(The Blue Mage limited job would also be available.) The races available would be Au Ra, Elezen, Hrothgar (male), Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo’te, Roegadyn, and Viera (female). You can join parties if you’re invited to one and be in linkshells, but you can’t hold over 300,000 gil, use the Party Finder or Companion App, or take part in PVP. You also can’t trade, use Moogle Delivery Service, share messages via chat or the market board, or interact with Free Companies and retainers.  This means that two of the five available expansion packs are part of the FFXIV free trial. The only ones that aren’t are additions that came after 2020. Those are Endwalker and Dawntrail. The next one will be Evercold, which is set to launch in January 2027. We’ll learn more about it and its next two jobs at the other 2026 Fan Festival events.Go Ad-Free With Siliconera+View the site with no ads, be able to provide direct feedback about what we cover, and be automatically entered into our monthly PC game giveaway.Join Siliconera+ Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the free trial now includes the FFXIV expansions Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers.
