The ASSIKURA Malta National Championships, powered by VICTOR, wrapped up this past weekend in thrilling fashion.The national tournament showcased local talent as players battled for titles across five key categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles and ladies’ doubles.The weekend produced some standout performances: Matthew Abela successfully defended his men’s Singles crown, while Francesca Clark and Sam Cassar each walked away with two national titles in doubles and mixed doubles.This year’s national champions are as follows:In men’s singles, the top seed, Matthew Abela, claimed his 10th national title, winning against runner-up Sam Cassar with a score of 21-17 and 21-13. Samuel Calì and Nigel Degaetano were the semi-finalists.For women’s singles, Francesca Clark took the crown with a win with scores 21-16 and 21-12 over Lauren Azzopardi. Semi-finalists were Emily Abela and Elenia Haber.In men’s doubles: Mark Abela and Sam Cassar triumphed in a nail-biting three-set final against Matthew Abela and Matthew Galea, winning 19-21, 21-11 and 22-20.As for women’s doubles: Lauren Azzopardi and Elenia Haber bounced back from a first-set loss to overcome Francesca Clark and Martina Clark with scores of 10-21, 23-21 and 21-14.In mixed doubles, Francesca Clark and Sam Cassar dominated in straight sets, winning against Elenia Haber and Matthew Abela 21-12, 21-6.Badminton Malta congratulates all winners and participants and extends heartfelt thanks to ASSIKURA, VICTOR, and the dedicated volunteers who made this event a seamless success.Well done to all!•
