I know what you mean. I've been alone since I was 6 months pregnant (at least as far as raising my son goes) and I would never think to trade on that fact to ask for free stuff. While I didn't know I'd be doing it alone when I chose to keep the baby, I did make that choice, and the raising of him is all on me.
