Before Call of Duty: Warzone, there was Blackout: Black Ops 4's third mode, replacing its campaign, and proof that CoD battle royale had legs.Almost eight years later, Black Ops 7's version of Warzone is turning back the clock with a new mode that's heavily inspired by Blackout, plays very differently from modern day Warzone, and sounds like a big undertaking that Activision will be supporting for some time.Image via Activision"Call of Duty’s original Battle Royale experience returns as Black Ops Royale, bringing the intensity of the original mode to Call of Duty: Warzone, but with modern updates and modifications for a truly Black Ops experience," Activision explained.Black Ops Royale launches on Thursday, March 12 at 11pm CT (midnight EST on March 13), and its changes sound like a breath of fresh air for Warzone: no loadouts, no Gulag (Redeploy Tokens are one of several methods to get back into the fight), and no in-game cash for 100 players on the new map, Avalon.Avalon's been playable as part of BO7's Endgame PvE mode, but the map has seen alterations to better suit it to BR as opposed to fighting AI enemies. Black Ops Royale will send 25 teams of four into the Mediterranean-themed sandbox to loot up and battle it out with ground loot, which also includes Perks. That means no more Buy Stations or pre-made weapons and classes, it's all about what you find in Avalon.Ground loot weapons will feature different archetypes that give unique strengths and weaknesses, but also operate on a color-based rarity system, so the rarer the quality the better the gun will perform. This is key to know when it comes to fighting enemies, or battle PvE AI at unique activities (similar to Warzone contracts or Endgame's activities) around the map to receive the best loot possible.Another main difference from Warzone is the return of the Wingsuit, a staple in both Blackout and Endgame. Along with Blackout's iconic Grappling Hook, this can be used to quickly traverse areas of the map by gliding around.https://youtu.be/orSc3zHP6-gThe differences in weapons and looting seem pretty distinct from Warzone, and the mobility of the Wingsuit, vehicles, and Grappling Hook makes it sound like it will be a faster-paced ordeal, similarly to how Blackout played almost a decade ago. We'll all know more next week when we can try the mode ourselves as the new BR experience arrives alongside Black Ops 7's Season 2 Reloaded update on March 12.
